The Glaucoma Foundation of Australia lnc. was incorporated in 1988 when a Council and officers were appointed. It is a non-profit registered charity. The Foundation's mission is to minimise visual disability from glaucoma. It accomplishes this by: - increasing community awareness and understanding of glaucoma and the need for regular eye checks; - supporting glaucoma patients and their families, especially with information; - funding glaucoma research. In 1999 the Foundation changed its name to Glaucoma Australia. New medicines, advances in diagnostic equipment and new therapeutic procedures are being developed all the time. Glaucoma Australia disseminates information about these developments as widely as possible. Glaucoma Australia offers counselling to sufferers, produces an informative newsletter and holds regular support group meetings. Willing volunteers perform much of its administrative work. The Association works with other organisations, individuals and groups in Australia and overseas to achieve its aims.
