
MND Victoria is dedicated to the fight against motor neurone disease (MND). It fights MND by providing care and support for people with MND, their families, carers and health professionals, and through investment in research to find cause, treatment and cure of this dreadful disease.
MND is a progressive, degenerative neurological disease. It affects the nerve cells controlling the muscles of movement. These nerve cells, or motor neurones, are found in the brain and spinal cord.
The muscles, without signals and stimulus from the nerves, gradually weaken and waste away, resulting in increasing levels of disability and, ultimately, death. More than one person dies every day in Australia from MND, while another person is diagnosed to take their place.
Most people with MND can be cared for and supported at home. The Association helps to make this possible by providing a range of services at no cost, including:

• In-home assessments
• Telephone and personal support
• Loan of disability aids and equipment
• Group programs
• Community education and awareness
• Contact through newsletters and a support group network, and
